A Brief Story

Liza Rachetto has been a lifelong athlete. She grew up in Boise, Idaho and was active in golf, downhill skiing, and swimming. Her educational background includes a degree in Sports Medicine and Physical Education at Whitworth College, where she competed as a 4-year All-American swimmer. After college she transitioned into triathlon competing on the Worlds Long Course U.S. team in 1999, completing 3 Ironman Triathlons (including Ironman Hawaii) and racing multiple Olympic distance events over the next 2 years.

Following a knee injury that forced her to transition out of triathlon into cycling, Liza raced the HP Womens Challenge Stage race in Idaho twice in her first two years of Cycling. She began her Professional Cycling career in 2004 in Italy, followed by 3 years of domestic racing for Professional teams Lipton and TIBCO, as well as stints with the US national development team and various composite squads in France, Italy, Japan, El Salvador and Australia.

In 2008 after suffering recurring flareups from arthritis Liza stopped high level cycling and was the Director of Sport for the TIBCO Women’s Pro Cycling Development Program and in 2009 was the Director of the Women’s SugarCRM Elite team. After returning to racing at an elite level herself in 2009 she decided to fulfill her ambition of continuing her cycling career in Italy racing with the System Data Fanini squad, including at the Womens Giro d Italia and Giro Toscana. On her mid season break she successfully directed the USA Cycling Womens National Team at the Route de France. In 2010 she returned to Pro Cycling as an athlete  with the Fanini squad out of Italy, and has since completed another Giro D Italia, as well as the NRC Series in the USA.

In 2012 Liza returned to Ironman Triathlon, winning Barb's Half Distance Overall, while her 10:32 Ironman Canada qualified her for the Hawaii Ironman World Championships which she completed in October.

In recent times Liza has earned her USA Cycling Level 3 Coaching Accreditation, and is an ACSM Certified Personal Trainer, and continues to train athletes and trainees out of Palo Alto and Los Altos, California.
